Six coronavirus patients recover in Lagos, Nigeria

Six coronavirus patients have recovered and are to be discharged tomorrow, the Lagos state government has said.

The Lagos state government through its commissioner for health, Prof Akin Abayomi, had on Thursday hinted while on a radio interview that the state had six recovered patients.

“Tomorrow, we are going to discharge six of the (coronavirus) patients in Lagos.” he said while on Nigeria info Radio.

“Our admitted patients will go down theoretically to 18.”

“6 of our #COVID19 inpatients have recovered and will be discharged soon,” Tunde Ajayi, special assistant to Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu tweeted earlier.

“There’s something Lagos is doing right. Lagos takes the lead.” He added.

Lagos was the first state to record a positive case of the virus and now leads in the number of affected persons compared to other infected states in Nigerian states according to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Two of the coronavirus patients in Lagos had been discharged after full recovery.

NCDC also confirmed on Wednesday that cases of coronavirus patients in the country has increased to 51.

“Five new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 2 in FCT, 2 in Lagos & 1 in Rivers,”NCDC tweeted Wednesday night.

This spate of recovering patients spikes some hope to so ordinary citizens who live in fear of what may happen as the virus spreads, considering the state of dilapidated health infrastructure in Nigeria.

More than 84,000 people have recovered from coronavirus globally, according to the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
